A Kenya Airways flight headed for the Malian capital Bamako had to make emergency landing when a pregnant woman developed complications.

According to the Duty Manager at Rwanda Airports Company, the KQ Boeing 737-800 aircraft that was coming from Nairobi asked for emergency help from Kigali International Airport.

“At around 10am to 10:30 am, KQ plane Boeing 737-800 had an emergency landing here,“ she said, but preferred anonymity.

The flight had a pregnant woman on board identified as Modesto Felix of Senegalese nationality who needed quick care. The pilots had to land for assistance.

When the plane landed, emergency teams were waiting. She was rushed to the Rwanda Military Hospital in Kigali, a short distance from the airport.

The KQ flight has continued to Bamako, but the patient has remained in Kigali for continued medical care, according to officials on site.
