The Commercial Court sitting in Kigali this Thursday ruled that Meddy undertake an out-of-court settlement with music promoters who accuse him of taking their money, and then not performing.

A local music promotions company KAGI Rwanda Ltd dragged Meddy to court claiming he was paid a total of $10,000 (about Rwf 9m) for concerts in Belgium late last year. He did not show up.

The singer, with several hits that have rocked clubs for some years, lives in Texas.

Meddy’s lawyer who was present in Court today asked the court to give his client time to negotiate with the firm.

Court agreed and ruled that Meddy makes contact with KAGI to conduct talks immediately, and if there was no agreement, the case would continue on March 22, 2019.

As this case is unraveling, another company, this time in Burundi also wants a refund of its $14,000 it spent to have Meddy perform.

Burundian company Crystal Event claims Meddy was paid an advance for two concerts in Bujumbura during the year end, but did flop.

Meddy changed his mind in response to social media threats that he would be killed, as it has happened to Rwandans.

Director of Crystal Event, Paulin Bizimana told Rwandan media that he paid Meddy $5,000, but incurred up to $14,000 in expenses including promotions for the flopped concerts.

The Burundians have also indicated they are going to file a case in Rwanda.
