Museveni Directs Ugandan Officials Not to Respond to Rwanda

Ugandan officials will no longer respond to Rwandan officials with regards to the deteriorating relations with Rwanda, as par the directive from President Yoweri Museveni.

Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo told a media briefing at the Uganda Media Center today afternoon that they will not make any more comments reacting to whatever Rwandan officials say in the media.

“In regard to Rwanda’s allegations and continued defamation of Ugandan officials by Rwandan officials, President Museveni gave us guidance that we should stop responding to anything they says in the media,” said Opondo.

Without elaborating, he said the President had informed them that the Rwanda-Uganda issue is being handled by relevant government agencies.

Known for making outlandish statements on all subjects, Ofwono said today he would not be making any more comments on the Rwanda-Uganda subject.

Ofwono made headlines on Saturday, which The Chronicles reported, when he made a shocking threat that Rwandan officials with property in Uganda should avoid speaking because they could be exposed.

The comment prompted swift reaction from Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Richard Sezibera that he had no property in Uganda, adding that even if he did, it was not a crime.

Opondo has also been engaged in heated exchanges with Rwanda’s State Minister for East African Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe on Twitter.
