Patrick Gakumba nicked-name ‘Super Manager’ is nowhere to be seen

He had committed to walk from Kigali to Nyagatare district, a distance of 173Km, if Barcelona FC lost to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League. It did and now he is nowhere to be seen.

Regionally well-known Rwandan football Agent Patrick Gakumba nicknamed “Super Manager” is a wanted man; not by the cops.

The Barcelona-Liverpool semifinal game came and went on Tuesday last week.

On Wednesday, as par his lost bet, Gakumba was supposed to set off from the Kigali Convention Center to his home in Ryabega, Nyagatare district, Eastern Province.

He was to walk the entirety of the distance. In interview with us and many local media, he had said he will be walking at night because it was cooler.

When The Chronicles contacted him via the phone on Friday, the day he was scheduled to reach Ryabega, he claimed to have indeed arrived.

We did contact Gakumba again over the weekend, this time asking for evidence like a video to be sure he indeed had fulfilled his bet obligation. He has yet to send anything.

Actually, his phone has been switched off.
For starters, Patrick Gakumba is common name in Rwandan football circles. He is the name behind major signings of players.

The most prominent of them is the transfer of Rwandan Meddie Kagere from Kenyan giants Gor Mahia to Tanzania champions Simba SC last June.

From the start, nobody believed Gakumba would go for the bet. But due to his status, some were still willing to give him the benefit of doubt.

On Wednesday 7pm last week, he was not seen at the KCC by eagerly waiting media.

Sports pundits interviewed also cast doubt, saying he cannot walk that distance. If Gakumba is in Matimba, they say, he must have traveled using his car at night so that the public does not see him.

“Gakumba is not serious,” said Stanley Gatera a Liverpool diehard and journalist. “We have tried to call him but he switched off his phone, he has to swallow his own words. When did he walk? He is lying. They should sue him for lying: that is an offense.”

Some are beginning to ask questions about his character, wondering how players like Meddie Kagera or Jacques Tuyisenge can trust him to represent them as their agent.

“At one point he is a football agent, then later he claims to be a musician, and releases a few funny songs. I just wonder where next he will head,” Journalist Jonathan Mbanza said.

On social media one post may have summed up all about Patrick Gakumba, asking whether it was indeed true the football agent was born on April 1, 1984.
