Huye district-based Mukura VS beat national giants Rayon Sports FC 3-1 on penalties to win the 2018 Peace Cup

National football body Ferwafa has set the draw for the 2019 Peace Cup Football Competition to be held on Wednesday May 22, 2019.

Twenty teams will be placed in an open draw of the first round of the games.

The confirmed teams are twelve clubs from the topflight national league: SC Kiyovu, AS Kigali, Sunrise FC, Rayon Sports, Police FC, APR FC, Bugesera FC, Mukura VS, Marines, Etincelles FC, Espoir FC, and Gicumbi FC.

The other eight teams will be from the second division league: Hope FC, Etoile de l’est, Interforce FC, Gasogi Utd, Unity Sports Club, Vision FC, Intare FC and Rwamagana City FC.

The winner will represent Rwanda at the CAF confederation cup while the victor of the topflight will compete at the CAF Champions league.

City of Kigali’s sponsored AS Kigali and Huye-based side Mukura have set their eyes on the title, having lost the hope to win this year’s national league trophy.

AS Kigali won the title in 2013 when they beat Muhanga 3-0 to walk away with Rwf 7 million.

Mukura Victory Soccer skipper Hussein Cyiza told The Chronicles that they will turn focus to defending the Peace Cup when the national league concludes.

“We are remaining with three games in the league which we cannot win,” he said. “…our focus is to defend the Peace Cup so that we can feature in the Confederation Cup.”

Mukura VS beat Rayon Sports FC 3-1 on penalties to win the 2018 edition.

After showing Burundian Coach Djuma Masudi the exit, AS Kigali is rumored, though not confirmed, to be looking to sign former Amavubi captain and Rayon Sports coach Olivier Kwizera to guide the team to the Peace Cup.

AS Kigali who dropped to sixth position on the league table, will travel to Espoir over the weekend, then battle Police FC and Amagaju FC before concluding the league season.
