With only two fixtures left for the national football league curtain to fall, APR’s loss to struggling side Muhanga FC has granted the indomitable rival Rayon Sports an advantage to clinch this year’s league title.
Muhanga FC left everyone shocked after it won a match at home 2-1 against the military side on Saturday. More surprising, it was a man less in the full 90 minutes.
Muhanga AS striker Yannick Bizimana scored two goals, and Yves Mugunga netted APR’s consolation.
The defeat now implies that the military side remains second on the table standings with 62 points, which gives arc rivals the opportunity to capitalize on the remaining fixtures to lift the title.
Rayon which registered an important 3-1 victory against Musanze FC on Friday, puts it four points ahead of APR defending champions.
In their next fixture against Kirehe FC next Friday, Rayon is only required a win to lift the title even with a game to spare.
That means that they accumulate 69 points compared to APR’s 68 points – that is if the defending champions defeat Espoir on 25 May.
In the final matches of the season, Rayon will take on Marines FC, while APR will be traveling to battle the law enforcers Police FC in what is also expected to be an entertaining game, since Police is fighting to finish in the top this season.
APR have won the title 18 titles, while Rayon are expecting their 9 league title.
