Military Side APR FC Fires Half Its Players In Shocking Move

Struggling football league team APR FC has dismissed more than half of its players in move that has shocked and excited the sports world in equal measure.

After missing out to defend the 2018/2019 National Football league and dropping out of this year’s Peace Cup, Rwandan military side APR FC decided to off-load 16 players.

The club made the announcement in a statement released on its official website, after holding a meeting behind closed doors on Friday at its headquarters.

One of the official release letters displayed and signed by Lt Gen Jacques Musemakweli, the club’s chairman, announced it has sacked the players – many of whom have been with the club for many years.

Maj Gen Mubarak Muganga presided over the meeting where the letters were given to the distraught-looking players, as seen in the photos from the session.

The club has announced it is planning the future without experienced team captain, Amavubi player Jean Baptiste “Migi” Mugiraneza, left-footed Jean Claude Iranzi, and goalkeeper Yves Kimenyi.

The other players released include; Denis Rukundo, Amran Nshimiyimana, Herve Rugwiro, Evode Rugwiro, Steven Ntaribi, and defender Michel Rusheshangoga.

Albert Ngabonzizi, veteran striker Maxime Sekamana as well as striker Issa Bigirimana have also not survived the axe.

Defender Ramadhani Niragira who joined the club in February this year and mid-fielder Savio Dominique Nshuti, have also been shown the door.

“The management of APR FC has taken a decision to release the 16 players in a meeting held today (Friday) at the club, the players have been hard working and to the clubs success,” read the sacking statement.

One of the release letters destined to one player Moustafa Nsengiyumva states that the player was hard working and instrumental to the club success, but he is hereby released to join any other club of his choice.

The club took the opportunity to thank them services rendered wishing them al the best in their future.

The decision by the club comes at a time when the Military side is preparing to feature in the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Club championship due to kick off on July 6, 2019, when they face Ugandan side Proline FC.

APR FC had 30 players registered with the national federation. Only 14 have survived.
The club says it will announce replacements for the sacked players as soon as possible.

APR’s move means the players in other clubs and its fierce rivals like Rayon Sports will be eagerly hoping to be wooed.
