Ingabire Victoire: Our President Pardoned Me, My Conviction Is Quashed And I Have Full Rights

The leader of the unregistered political party FDU Inkingi Ingabire Victoire Umuhoza has said the clemency granted by President Paul Kagame allows her to have full rights.

Ingabire’s comments were in response to a challenge put to her that she no longer has some political rights as a result of the 2012 Supreme Court 15 year conviction for terror related cases.

As par Article 21 of the election law, Ingabire does not qualify to be a candidate in any electable office or register a political party.

“Our President pardoned me. This pardon extinguished the imposed penalty and all the the consequences of the offense,” said Ingabire in a response to The Chronicles queries.

Ingabire also said she is “soon to declare” her candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections.

“Each political party aspires to be [in] power. It is soon to declare that I will be candidate,” she said.

Ingabire was given mercy by President Paul Kagame on September 14, 2017, and other more than 2,000 convicts were granted parole.
