Jean-Marc Berthon, French President Emmanuel Macron’s Special Advisor has been appointed as Chief of Staff for La Francophonie Secretary General Louise Mushikiwabo.
The office was initially headed by French magistrate Nicolas Groper who was brought by ex-SG Canadian Michaëlle Jean.
As Chief of Staff, the new holder Berthon directly manages all day-to-day operations of the French-speaking bloc, as Rwanda’s former foreign minister Mushikiwabo deals with overall political representation and administration.
Mushikiwabo was elected Secretary General of the International Organization of la Francophonie in October 2018 and took office in January 2019.
