Mine Collapses in Kamonyi District, Kills 3

Three people have been killed following the collapse of a gravel stone mine in Ngoma cell, Nyamiyaga sector, Kamonyi district south of Kigali.

Two others were seriously injured and currently hospitalized at Remera Rukoma hospital in Kamonyi. The mine caved in on Tuesday afternoon.

The mine is legal and owned by private businessman Ngenzi Primiane. Gravel stone used in road construction and other ways, is mined here.

Kamonyi district mayor Kayitesi Alice said the collapse of the mine could have been as result of weeks of heavy rain.
