DR Congo’s Foreign affairs minister Marie Ntumba Nzeza arrived Sunday in Gitega for high-level talks in Burundi.
Nzeza is reported to be carrying a message from President Felix Tshisekedi for Burundian counterpart Evariste Ndayishimiye.
During the two-day visit, Nzeza will open a fresh bilateral engagement with Burundi, as President Tshisekedi attempts to find a way to bring peace to his country.
Last month, a regional summit that had been organized by Tshisekedi in Goma bringing together leaders of Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Angola, failed.
Burundi for its part pulled out saying it preferred bilateral talks with DR Congo before any regional meetings.
The summit had been highly anticipated as it would have been first time since 2015 that a Burundi head of state had been in same room with Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame.
