Global Fund Projects Not Paying Rwandan Suppliers

Rwanda hosted the Global Fund Board Meeting in 2017 and President Paul Kagame chaired one of the sessions

The Global Fund, a world agency dealing with HIV/Aids, Malaria and Tuberculosis has put more than $1.4b in Rwanda, however local implementors are not paying for supplies. 

The Global Fund gives funding directly to government and NGOs, which in turn put in place various projects dealing with the three diseases.

The Chronicles has discovered that the some Global Fund beneficiaries are not playing for the supplies they got from local businesspeople. 

In Rwanda, the Global Fund is ranked among the so called “long standing debtors” by a report of the country’s Auditor General made public two weeks ago. 

It has kept suppliers demanding for their money for over two years. The amount involved is Rwf 63m, a very small figure compared to the Global Fund’e purse, but obviously a significant amount to the affected suppliers. 

Incidentally, Rwandan international citizen Dr Donald Kaberuka is the board chair for the Global Fund, – putting him at the forefront of efforts to confront the deadly diseases.
